Why can’t we flush Greywater in the US? the U.K. is doing it?

Written by Water Legacy on September 6, 2011 – 3:00 pm -

On a recent trip with friends we discussed the usage of Water Legacy’s greywater re-use system and how some people just think it is is accepted as the norm.  It is not the norm… as a matter of fact, it is abnormal and truly the ones who choose to re-use greywater for toilet flushing are innovators and leaders.  However, in other countries flushing fresh water is not the good thing to do.  Grey water is used in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK  http://www.eveningnews24.co.uk/news/new_norfolk_homes_are_a_sign_of_the_times_1_1014108.

So we need to get our government to realize the energy savings, the water conservation and the benefit of greywater re-recycling and allow it instead of disallowing based on old thoughts….

Greywater Reuse and the Energy Nexus

Written by Water Legacy on May 11, 2011 – 1:14 pm -

Visit this link to see our President and leader Mike Vail speak to IAPMO members regarding the energy usage of cleaning and treating water.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxB23-7hox8 It is amazing the cost of energy to  provide fresh water to flush your toilets.  Water conservation can save up to 13% of the cost of moving, treating and using water.  80% of the cost of a municipal system is just moving water…. Hey… how about a solution of re-using water to not only save water, but also to save energy.

CSU and Water Legacy partnership is Green

Written by Water Legacy on February 18, 2011 – 3:56 pm -

A recent article written in the Rocky Mountain Collegian by Holly Batchelder defines the steps Colorado State University is taking in going “Green”.  One of those steps is the partnership with Water Legacy and the CSU’s school of Engineering.  Water Legacy’s mission is expanding in the area of multi-family, multi person, and commercial buildings. The greywater re-use system designed by Water Legacy in Allen Hall will be the first of it’s kind in the country.  How great is that?  All of us can remember showering in the dorms and when the toilets flushed the spray of hot water that singed us.  Now that water will be coming back to flush the toilets.

We are so proud to be affiliated with the wonderful staff and students at CSU and hope the momentum continues.

Please read this post from the Rocky mountian Colligian  http://www.collegian.com/index.php/article/2011/01/020111_guestcolumnbatchelder

Water Shortages? Here?

Written by Water Legacy on November 5, 2010 – 2:25 pm -

We seem to focus on the shortage of something when it affects our lives, otherwise we don’t really care.  There is a also a tendancy to think a shortage will right itself as if by magic.  However, when it comes to water, there is a limited supply of fresh water.  Other countries, such as Australia and Canada, know the potential downfalls of shortages and are regulating their water and storm systems to accomodate innovative ideas.

One area that we can help ourselves prepare for potential shortages is to conserve and reuse.  Most sustainably oriented people already utilize low flush toilets, low flow faucets and at least turn off the water while brushing their teeth.  However, there seems to be an impass of legislative rules regarding the re-use of greywater and especially in toilet flushing.  We have available a method to save consumption in residential households  40% of its water usage and cities are fighting over whether or not to allow it.

If you Don’t Flush Fresh Water you can save 40%, sometimes even more.  check out this link that concerns the top cities in the U.S. Facing water shortages and think about why recycling greywater to flush your toilet makes sense.

Water Legacy’s Pilot Program for Greywater Re-use in Public Housing

Written by Water Legacy on October 15, 2010 – 3:19 pm -

Denver Housing Authority broke ground on the $20.4 million project providing affordable housing for low income seniors this week.  Part of the program is a pilot project featuring Water Legacy’s Greywater re-use system’s technology.  Mike Vail, CEO of Water Legacy has been involved in the planning and engineering of the plumbing system in the project and is thrilled to see it come so far.  “We always knew the need for conservation of water would have to transition public and multi-family housing, and we are proud to be a part of this innovative project.”, He said recently.

Current water demands are not Sustainable

Written by Water Legacy on July 21, 2010 – 3:13 pm -

Laer Pearce, one of my connections on LinkedIn, posted an article on the Water Conservation Professionals group that has definitive information that relates to Water Legacy and our mission to reduce water consumption through re-use of greywater by toilet flushing.  Over 1,100 counties in the US will face shortages of water by 2050.  After reading this article, we realize our mission may be in its infancy, because we american’s have a tendancy not to think beyond a couple of years.  So what can we do???

Greywater recycling, conservation through re-use in irrigation, eco-faucets and high efficiency plumbing are the starting blocks. However; serious efforts need to be made in municipal use, power plant cooling and industrial applications. Total water consumption is projected to increase, not decrease by 2050 by 12% for municipal use and electric cooling.  Agriculture, livestock, irrigation and mining is expected to remain relatively the same.  We can have an effect on our municipal use through greywater recycling by using our shower and washing machine water to flush our toilets. We can impact usage individually. Domestic greywater recycling has reduced our family’s overall use by at least 40%, but not everyone is married to the designer of the WL55.

Greywater Re-use is a HOT Topic!

Written by Water Legacy on June 23, 2010 – 1:45 pm -

Mike Holmes - Holmes on Homes, a Canadian publication asserts it is time to start using grey water to flush our toilets!  DUH!   We, at Water legacy have been saying this for years.  The time has come for the regulatory agencies to start mandating the use of greywater to flush toilets. I n this article it states:            “Grey-water recycling is a technology we all need to adopt to help conserve water.”  We have the technology!  It exists and it works.  Our water bill last month for water alone was a  whopping $12.00.

View this article at http://www.holmesmagazine.com/moremike_waterways.php.

The WL55 from Water legacy saves an average household 30%-40% of its residential water consumption!  Now that is saving water

Let me know what you think.

Hello to all those who read my blogs.

We were written about and we did not even know it.  The best kind of publicity is truly word of mouth and unsolicited.  Thank you to Michele Melio for her kind words.  To view her article check out this site http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-5397-Denver-Green-Initiative-Examiner~y2009m11d15-Colorado-Green-Tech-MeetUp-Green-Grey-water-recycling
